 The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)  Practice Leader will provide strategic vision and business development support across the firm and will manage and lead highly technical projects focused on the use of technology to improve transportation systems for all users. The ITS practice leader will be responsible for creating opportunities for less-experienced staff to develop skills in ITS planning and design. In addition, the candidate will also present and develop cost-effective deployment plans, propose methodologies, and objectively present findings while building consensus among stakeholders and the public. The successful candidate will have the desire and interpersonal skills to interface with clients and will receive mentoring and support to become successful in this role. This position could be in a one of our East Coast offices.

 Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of ITS and traffic engineering experience, with background in ITS planning and design
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Extensive experience working on a variety of projects related to the following areas:
    • Traffic monitoring and management, particularly for incidents, emergency services, construction, and weather-related events
    • Traveler information systems
  • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in analyzing and solving complex transportation technology challenges dealing with all travel modes
  • Ability to use a variety of software programs effectively, and to make timely and informed recommendations to clients, elected officials, and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of technology advances shaping the future of the industry including autonomous and connected vehicles, Mobility on Demand (MOD) and Mobility as a Service (MaaS)
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and develop solid internal and client relationships
  • Proven experience in providing quality-control oversight of technical analysis
  • Strong willingness and ability to lead and win competitive marketing pursuits

 

Other positive attributes:

 

  • Experience with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) systems engineering process
  • Ability to provide technical advice on the following topics:
    • Network engineering, including interconnect planning and design
    • Transportation operation centers (TOC), including their connection to field equipment and role in monitoring traffic
    • Freeway management, particularly related to incident management, ramp meters, variable speed limits, and variable message signs (VMS)
    • Warning systems for speeds and/or challenging roadway geometry
    • Vehicle-tracking systems for transit and freight
    • Traffic signal systems and transit signal priority (TSP)
    • Systems engineering
  • Active industry involvement in organization such as but not limited to ITS America, ITE, TRB, and other organizations.
  • Coordinating stakeholder outreach teams and other disciplines for project delivery
  • Experience conducting technical training
  • Entrepreneurial and consulting spirit to serve internal and external clients
  • Passion for the transportation industry and consulting
