Job Description
RK&K is hiring a Technical Manager with the vision, experience and drive to lead the technical aspects of our Highways Design projects in the Charlotte, NC area. As a Technical Manager at RK&K, you will partner with our expert engineers, planners, designers, and support staff to deliver world class engineering solutions to State, Federal and Municipal customers. This position will include the oversight and management support of a team of dynamic transportation designers.

Our technical managers are primarily responsible for the technical design aspects of our projects. Working alongside our project managers, our technical managers work with design engineers to produce innovative, complete designs of the highest quality. These technical leaders have a through understanding of National and State-Level design standards and have a passion for mentoring design staff.

Essential Function

  • Lead and contribute design expertise on transportation planning and design projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Review and certify engineering documents to meet quality control goals and standards of care
  • Lead and mentor engineering and technician staff on transportation planning and/or design task
  • Incorporate the latest technology and innovation into projects
  • Manage the quality control process for deliverables
  • Interfaces with client's and/or teaming partners technical managers
  • Produce construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates is a plus
  • Understand AASHTO and FHWA Design Standards and other design manuals and guidelines including NCDOT Plan Development Process

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in transportation/roadway engineering supporting North Carolina State (NCDOT) and/or local municipalities
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Eagerness and passion for leading complex and routine highway design projects and creating lasting technical solutions
  • Expertise in Microstation / Geopak / InRoads/ Open Roads and/or AutoCAD / Civil 3D and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to teach and mentor design staff on the technical aspects of roadway design projects

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • North Carolina Professional Engineering Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months
  • North Carolina Department of Transportation of local county/city agency experience
  • Alternative project delivery experience is a plus
