Job Description

STV Carolinas is currently seeking transportation/environmental planner interested in, or having a general understanding of, environmental planning (NEPA and SEPA) primarily as it relates to transportation projects, including transit, roadway, bridge, rail and bicycle/pedestrian. Planner will gather, compile and analyze transportation and environmental data, including demographic, economic, community, land use and natural systems, in order to complete environmental documentation (Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements).

Primary tasks include:

  • Collecting project related data, which may include desktop research, local outreach, coordination with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field visits
  • Organizing and managing databases
  • Utilizing GIS to conduct various analyses and data collection
  • Preparing mapping using GIS (constraint, location, vicinity, etc. maps)
  • Assisting in preparation of environmental documentation (Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements)
  • Reviewing local and regional plans for compliance and consistency
  • Performing field visits and other research to compile and evaluate data to determine potential impacts of a transportation project on the human and natural environment.
  • Coordinating with engineers to evaluate conceptual and preliminary design as it relates to environmental and community impacts
  • Assisting in the preparation for and participating in public information meetings and hearings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in city/Urban Planning or related discipline
  • 4 or more years related experience
  • Understanding of transportation and environmental planning principles
  • Experience in using ArcGIS, ArcPro for analysis and presentation
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Technical writing experience
