How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Corporate, Environmental Manager, you will manage environmental risk and liability, including the development and implementation of SPX environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines, to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, manage the environmental audit program, and manage remediation projects in accord with budget and financial reporting and contingent liability reserve requirements.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. Remediation Program and Project Management:

  • Manage remediation projects involving current or legacy sites and third-party liabilities
  • Develop and effectively manage consultant support, outside legal support, and related project implementation efforts budget requirements
  • Effectively communicate and negotiate with regulators and track and meet regulatory deadlines and schedules
  • Develop innovative cost-saving technical or regulatory closure options to minimize long-term costs and liabilities
  • Work with finance and outside auditors to meet financial reserve reporting requirements.

2. Audit Program:

  • Maintain audit process implementation (third-party and self-audit processes), and related documentation and reporting
  • Monitor and facilitate the development of facility audit action plans and manage

facility audit action plans, with supporting documentation, and report results to management.

  • Provide technical assistance to the field regarding corporate audit expectations and assist with the closure of actions from audit findings

3. Compliance Assurance, Training, and Support:

  • Provide appropriate resources and guidance for the use of corporate EHS tools (websites, emission calculation tools, VelocityEHS, etc.)
  • Oversee and direct sustainability-related tracking and annual reporting
  • Provide guidance, technical assistance, and advice on corporate compliance resources and initiatives, laws, regulations, and trends, including on environmental and sustainability matters, environmental engineering, and pollution control technology needs
  • Provide regulatory and technical permitting review and oversight
  • Track and analyze regulatory developments and changes and communicate to business unit and facility coordinators
  • Report ongoing compliance results to Operations, Legal, and business unit management as appropriate
  • Assist in identifying overall corporate training objectives and requirements
  • Develop and conduct training seminars and conferences, including training for EHS coordinators

4. Standards, Procedures and Guidelines:

  • Manage and monitor existing SPX EHS standards, procedures, guidelines, and reference tools, and revise as needed
  • Provide business unit and facility-level technical assistance on corporate initiatives, regulatory trends/changes, and EHS standards, practices, and procedures

5. Incident Management:

  • Provide business unit and facility-level assistance on SPX incident reporting requirements, root cause investigation, and analyses.
  • Ensure appropriate facility reporting of incidents, per SPX policy and/or regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate and monitor closure and follow-up of incidents and/or investigations
  • Provide incident review and analysis support (VelocityEHS)

6. Acquisitions and Divestitures:

  • Assist with, manage, or carry out due diligence
  • Ensure prompt closure of due diligence findings, facilitating support for remediation as requested
  • Facilitate actions to limit risk related to plant closures/plant moves, etc.
  • Ensure facilities develop defined action plans for implementation of EHS systems
  • Assist in onboarding, training, and integration of newly acquired sites, businesses, and personnel

7. Management System:

  • Monitor overall maturity of facility EHS management systems and report results to Corporate EHS
  • Coordinate and align regional EHS management system initiatives with SPX corporate guidance policies and objectives
  • Facilitate implementation of EHS management systems and environmental sustainability initiatives

8. Continuous Improvement

  • Develop continuous improvement programs to ensure ongoing achievement of corporate environmental performance improvement and sustainability objectives.
  • Assist the service, assembly, and manufacturing sites with developing CI programs to ensure ongoing achievement and alignment of sustainability objectives.
  • Develop continuous improvement EHS management system initiatives as necessary that align with SPX objectives.

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related position, preferably some experience in a corporate environment or managing multiple locations
  • Experienced in addressing a wide range of EHS issues globally
  • Experience with a wide range of EHS issues including those related to waste management, water/wastewater/stormwater, air quality, hazardous substances, and environmental sustainability

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding of global environmental laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated technical and regulatory project management experience and skills in managing multiple complex soil and groundwater remediation projects in the US and other countries
  • Must be able to make decisions using ethical reasoning and sound judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate and manage conflicts to satisfactory resolution.
  • Ability to influence operating management to implement Corporate EHS programs
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast-paced and demanding
  • Must be self-directed and have excellent initiative and organizational skills
  • Exhibit a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive, and energy
  • Work well under stress with the ability to deliver on time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in EHS, engineering, or related field with EHS management emphasis
  • Relevant certifications may include environmental LEP, professional geologist (P.G.) or P.E.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Onsite office environment.
