Behavioral Health Addiction Urgent Care(BHAUC) is a center for individuals suffering from substance use disorder and mental illness. The program is a gateway to getting clients in needed treatment for addiction and/or mental crisis by providing an evaluation, bed search and support from our team. Behavioral Health Addiction Urgent Care is an exciting, dynamic environment in which all members of the multidisciplinary team work together to ensure the best outcomes for our clients. As an RN at BHAUC you'd be triaging adult clients seeking mental health and addiction treatment. Physical assessment including review of systems, substance use and mental health assessment to determine level of care. The RN/LPN along with the inter disciplinary team will explore treatment options internally or throughout the state with individuals. The RN/LPN also responds to medical emergencies. The RN/LPN will report directly to the Program Director and Assistant Director.

  • Renders and supervises care of patients on the unit. Ensures safety of all clients on unit.
  • Complete nursing assessments of clients screening and testing for but not limited to such diseases as Covid 19, diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis etc...
  • Monitors medication in consultation with the Medical Director and on call physicians. Properly documents all medication per program requirements. Administers medication as prescribed by physicians per program requirements. This may include injections. Provides information and teaching about medication. Works with clients and case managers to ensure all medications are obtained for discharge.
  • Participates in the evaluation of client's condition and progress with other team members.
  • Observe and assess patients for medical clinical signs and symptoms or withdrawal and follows prescribed course of treatment, with notification to the Medical Director as needed.
  • Communicates and documents all pertinent information related to client's condition and effects of treatment to team members.
  • Reports to Administrator on call, all emergency, medical and disciplinary situations that require administrative intervention.
  • Participates with other staff members in implementing program objectives and philosophy.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings, attends conferences and in-services to keep abreast of new trends in nursing practice.Attends trainings on Medication Assisted Treatment to be knowledgeable and able to provide client education and medication as prescribed.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned by Program Director, Nursing Supervisor and/ or Director of Nursing.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel and stand for periods of time in order to assist clients when necessary and follow treatment protocols.
  • Administer emergency care (i.e. CPR, seizures), makes referrals to Emergency Room as necessary.
  • Assess daily patient care needs in conjunction with the clinical, case management and medical team.
  • Work with clients to coordinate care with their PCP, psychiatrist, and other professionals, including but not limited to medication refills and follow up medical appointments.
  • Resolves problems on the unit before he/she reports off and communicates any pertinent information to all oncoming staff and on call manager as needed.
  • Reports to the Program Director, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Manger or on call manager all issues on the unit.
  • Provides medical review of referrals from outside agencies, ER's and CHL Emergency Services as needed.
  • Administers standing-order medications as appropriate.
  • Obtains client consent and follows up with client's MAT provider to confirm dose and date of last dose, as appropriate, prior to admission
  • Performs daily calibration of glucometer strips and other medical equipment and supplies and daily checks on emergency equipment and ensures it is ready for use
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

Qualifications:

  • N08: Acute Care RN: Valid RN Massachusetts License
  • Current CPR
  • Excellent assessment and triage skills
  • Awake overnight staff must be able to remain awake and alert during the overnight shift to provide a safe and healthy environment for our clients and co-workers
  • 2-3 years nursing experience with substance abuse and/or mental health preferred
  • Experienced with electronic health records required
  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary team
  • Appreciation and a desire to be part of an Integrated Care team which provides clients with optimal therapeutic care.
  • Ability to work with diverse client population
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) oral and written communication skills a plus
  • Must be able to pass a CORI background check
