1. A letter of interest describing the candidate's background and education, approach to teaching general education classes, experiences facilitating culturally competent classroom pedagogy, and what assets you bring to serving a diverse student population at an urban research campus.
2. A curriculum vitae.
3. A link to a video, 5-10 minutes in length, in which the candidate teaches a lesson on any General Education topic in music at the undergraduate level. The recording can be of a lesson from a recent synchronous or asynchronous class, or of an asynchronous lesson recorded specifically for this application.
4. The contact information for five professional references.
Letters of recommendation and transcripts will be requested from candidates advancing into the later stages of the review process.

| Description of Work | The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work. |
| Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The primary responsibility is to teach large sections of a liberal studies course titled "The Arts in Society: Music," in which students survey the position of music in selected cultures from around the world. Students experience a wide range of ideas and styles and move toward thoughtful, critical, and creative listening, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the place of music in reflecting, shaping and critiquing society. The specific subject matter of this course varies, depending on the instructor's interest and background. Additional duties may be assigned commensurate with the candidate's expertise and the department's curricular needs. |
| Minimum Experience/Education | UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
| Preferred Education, Skills and Experience | Candidates must hold a master's degree in music. Previous success in teaching at the collegiate level, specifically in working with large groups of students, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching a multicultural population of first-generation college students, within the context of an urban research university. Applicants whose teaching incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply. |
