The Position

The OSP Project Engineer performs detailed outside plant facility engineering tasks that includes estimating, analyzing, designing, planning, budget tracking estimates against actual costs for copper and fiber cables, poles, direct buried and conduit systems. This position is responsible for preparing and interpreting engineering plans, drawings and reports; preparing loop loss design for load and repeater electronics, planning and designing field mounted switch serving areas, performing pole, conduit and buried facility design measurements to support company and industry OSP design standards and economic feasibility studies. This position is responsible for specific job budget development and tracking. This position is responsible for periodic job inspections and quality control. Position is responsible for all electronic and manual mapping data input in markets in Virginia and North Carolina. In addition to OSP Tasks, the OSP Project Engineer will oversee project designs from outside vendors, review the designs while approving the work to move on to the next phase, and manage timelines for neighborhoods with specific outside vendors to validate on time delivery of design work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Fiber cable field design, cost estimating, splicing sequences, and planning and design loss calculations.
  • Overseeing outside vendor's design and approving design packages to move onto next phase of projects
  • CAD and manual mapping/drafting, ICMS records updates and research, Permits
  • Estimating, cost studies, customer contacts, negotiating land acquisitions for easements and land purchases for field mounted switching units.

Qualifications:

Education: College Degree preferred

Experience: 10+ years' experience with project management required. Telecommunications industry experience desired. MS Office knowledge required, particularly Word, Excel, and Project. Knowledge and experience with telecommunications network technologies, protocols, and operations.

Key Competencies: Demonstrated ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects. Proven clear, informative, persuasive and collaborative verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must exhibit honesty, integrity, and courtesy in all interactions. Must possess strong work ethic in supporting customer needs, responding promptly and consistently.
