The Shelby location is Clearwater Paper's newest consumer products facility, boasting two paper mills located on 400 acres with over 600 talented employees. What you will do
The Electrical Maintenance Tech is responsible for all electrical functions of machines and equipment across the paper facility including preventive and non-preventive maintenance.

  • Perform installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of photo eyes, proximity switches, limit switches, PLC input/output modules, and all associated control wiring.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and repair motors, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and soft-starts up to 4160 Volt.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot position feedback devices encoders, load cells, hydraulic systems, natural gas burners, and boiler control systems.
  • Installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of pressure, level, flow, temperature, consistency, conductivity, turbidity, and pH transmitters.
  • Tuning of process control loops and machine control systems.
  • Programming and troubleshooting DCS, PLC, and HMI interfaces.
  • Perform configuration and logic modifications to DCS and PLC control systems. Modifications will include programming in ladder logic, and block logic. sequential logic and statement logic.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose configuration and implementation of integrated and stand-alone graphic human-machine interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose specification of communication protocols, including Profibus, serial and industrial Ethernet.
  • Diagnose and perform preventive maintenance on Laser Guided Vehicles and associated conveyors and equipment.
  • Hold self and others to a high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE)
  • Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate the root cause.
  • Ensure the work environment is clean and free from debris.

What you will need
To be successful in this position, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated electrical experience in controls or instrumentation and or a combination of electrical experience with an associate degree in the related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), pneumatics, or hydraulic systems required.
  • Experience in working with computerized maintenance systems preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and performing maintenance on packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confined spaces, personal protective equipment, etc.) preferred.
  • PLC programming preferred.
  • Welding and machining preferred.
  • Ability to work on a variety of machines (Perini & ChinLee rewinders, UNO wrappers, Infinity wrappers, folded machines, etc.) preferred.
  • Forklift/Clamp truck certified preferred.
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, and over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and above, the Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Able to wear and comply with all personal protective equipment (Eye and ear protection, steel-toed shoes, face masks, etc.)
  • Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and Holidays. Able to work overtime as needed.
    Example of a rotating shift schedule:
    Day 1: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm
    Day 2: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm
    Day 3: 6:00 pm - 6:30 am
    Day 4: 6:00 pm - 6:30 am
    4 days off
