Terracon Consultants, a nationwide engineering consulting firm, is seeking an environmental technician to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina.This position would be part of a very skilled team that performs airborne chemical monitoring, asbestos and lead paint inspections, noise monitoring, indoor air quality assessments, and other activities. We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and personable individual with an eye for detail, a willingness to learn, and a desire to be part of a growing and high-performing team. General Responsibilities:
Perform tests and sampling of air and building materials for asbestos, lead, and other compounds. It also includes monitoring for parameters such as temperature, carbon dioxide, and noise and personnel exposure monitoring. Operate and calibrate field monitoring equipment. Performs asbestos inspections and oversight for asbestos abatement projects. Tabulate and prepare data for written reports. Cleans and maintains field monitoring equipment. Adhere to strict safety standards. This position is based out of our Charlotte, North Carolina office, but supports clients in North Carolina and South Carolina with some opportunities for travel across the country.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Performs asbestos and lead paint inspections and air monitoring.
  • Perform industrial hygiene monitoring
  • Performs standardized and some complex field tests as directed using well-defined procedures.
  • Assists more experienced staff on complex tasks and large-scale projects.
  • Prepares reports in Word and Excel.
  • Perform work tasks with safety as a top priority andtake part in pre-task planning.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AHERA training for asbestos inspector and asbestos air monitor
  • Minimum 2-6 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
  • License / certification for lead inspector or risk assessor in North Carolina or Federal EPA.
  • Other national, regional, state, and local environmental related certifications will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
