GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provides support and assistance to the VP, tax to ensure that Dole Food Company, Inc. (Dole) is compliant with the US international tax laws and to assist in global tax planning related to tax law changes, efficient cash taxes and efficient effective tax rate while remaining compliant with local tax rules and regulations. This position will also have primary responsibility for preparation of the international component of the US tax provision, preparation and/or manage outsourcing of the Forms 5471 used in the preparation of US Forms 5471 (foreign entity reporting). The position will also support the VP, Tax in the completion of transfer pricing studies (prepared by outside vendors) and implementation of resulting recommendations. This position will also be the primary contact for the regions in all tax matters governed by Corporate.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Coordinate overall internal and external processes for completion of Forms 5471 foreign entity reporting
  • Provides the US tax compliance input for the annual US tax return as it relates to International applications
  • Implements, monitors, supports, and documents transfer pricing policies on a worldwide basis,
  • Assists Director, Tax Accounting with quarterly and annual tax provisions as it relates to application of the US International Tax rules and regulations
  • Utilizes technical tax expertise to assist international business operations in structuring and conducting their day to day business activities in a tax efficient manner,
  • Assists the VP, Tax in performing tax and business analysis of acquisitions, divestitures and restructurings involving foreign affiliates or foreign operations,
  • Participates with the VP, Tax in identifying and evaluating various foreign tax planning opportunities, and makes recommendations regarding their implementation,
  • Recommends and assists in the implementation of changes to Dole's legal entity structure, policies, operations and business practices in order to minimize taxes on foreign operations,
  • Assists in the international aspects of US tax audits, as well as local audits of foreign affiliates, including drafting responses to requests for information, conducting discussions with the appropriate personnel, and providing assistance as required during any audit appeal process,
  • Provides advice to Corporate Treasury department in order to optimally manage worldwide cash positions in a tax efficient manner, including financing for off-shore transactions, and tax efficient repatriation of offshore earnings,
  • Provides assistance in drafting internal legal documents, including contracts, promissory notes, and minutes,
  • Provides guidance to respective accounting departments as to the proper accounting for transactions involving international operations,
  • In connection with tax, accounting, legal, and IT departments, provides assistance in the design of systems and procedures to implement tax saving ideas, and
  • Performs tax research and planning and writing position papers in connection with all of the above activities.
  • Routine contact with each region to assist and understand what each region is doing regarding tax matters
  • All responsibilities include collaborating with the broader global tax team and Division tax personnel when appropriate.

Required Skills

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Must have experience (5+ years) in the areas of ASC 740 and domestic and international U.S. income tax rules
  • Experience and skilled in tax research
  • Experience and skills in technical tax memorandum writing
  • Good communication skills for interaction with other functions and the regions
  • Public and private experience preferred
  • CPA preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to answer phones and utilize a variety of office equipment;
  • Must be able lift up to 15 lbs. and reach overhead

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • The normal hours of work will be 8:30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday through Friday, but due to the nature of the business, these hours and days may vary, and the role requires the employee to be flexible as the position demands.
  • Ability to travel up to 15% international and domestic


Required Experience

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION:

  • BS Degree or MS, preferably in accounting
  • CPA preferred
