Job Description



  • Performs troubleshooting/repair of complex water system process mechanical equipment. Performs preventative maintenance tasks to increase overall water systems' mechanical reliability. Additionally, this employee must obtain a drinking water operator "A" license and serve as relief operator as needed.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Must be proficient in accurately troubleshooting/repair of all mechanical process equipment within the Regional Water Systems.
  • Must understand basic electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Must be able to remove/install all types of mechanical bearings/seals on centrifugal/vertical turbine pumps.
  • Must be able to rebuild all types/models of mechanical gearboxes.
  • Must be able to rebuild vertical turbine and split case centrifugal pumps.
  • Must be able to interpret equipment technical manuals and/or write procedures.
  • Must be able to read mechanical prints and drawings.
  • Must be able to align mechanical pumps/motors with laser alignment equipment.
  • Must be able to change out all types/models of electrical motors.
  • Must be able to cut, weld, and burn to make minor piping/structural repairs above or below grade.
  • Must be able to repair and install Schedule 80 PVC piping and associated fittings.
  • Must be willing to paint, cut grass, sweep floors, and perform other duties as assigned when needed.

  • Mechanic A
  • High School Diploma/GED with technical courses in the repair of mechanical rotating equipment, welding, and metal fabrication + 5 years of experience or 2 years experience as a Mechanic "B".
  • Associate's Degree + 3 years experience preferred.
  • Must have Heavy Equipment experience.
  • Must be able to enter confined space.
  • Crane Operator Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Must obtain a Water Treatment Operator A and Water Distribution A license within 4 years of employment.
  • CDL Class A License required within 6 months of employment.


  • Compensation Information:
    $32.00 - $40.00 (min. - mid.)

    Mechanic B
  • High School Diploma/GED with technical courses in the repair of mechanical rotating equipment, welding, and metal fabrication + 2 years of experience or 2 years experience as a Mechanic "C".
  • Associate's Degree + 2 years experience preferred.
  • Must have Heavy Equipment experience.
  • Must be able to enter confined space.
  • Crane Operator Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • Must obtain a Water Treatment Operator A and Water Distribution A license within 4 years of employment.
  • CDL Class A License required within 6 months of employment.


  • Compensation Information:
    $23.40 - $29.20 (min. - mid.)
