Job Description



  • Responsible for operating, inspecting, and monitoring auxiliary support equipment to assist the Unit Operator and Shift Supervisor with operation of the boiler/turbine/generator and other station systems including scrubbers and SCRs.


  • Essential Job Tasks:
  • Inspects turbines, generators, boilers, scrubbers, and all related equipment, unloads fuel oil/used oil trucks, and reports unusual conditions to Unit Operator or Shift Supervisor to ensure reliable performance of station equipment.
  • Assists Unit Operator in operation of electrical generating units as necessary to maintain proper operation of the station, including compliance with safety and environmental programs and permits.
  • Operates various subsystems such as water plant, ash removal system, cooling water systems, flyash and coal conveyor systems, scrubbers, SCRs, and chemical feed systems as necessary to maintain operation of the station.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment in regularly assigned areas to ensure reliable operation and clean equipment.
  • Records necessary readings on turbines, generators, boilers, scrubbers, SCRs, and auxiliary equipment to monitor equipment performance and compare to expected performance.
  • Opens and closes valves, racks electrical breakers, and opens and closes high voltage disconnects, up to 230 KV, (in accordance with the Corporate Switching Procedure) for daily operation and LOTO (lockout tagout) clearance purposes.
  • Assists maintenance section as needed when not required on operations duty to maintain high level of productivity and economical operations.
  • Serves as a member of the fire brigade and confined space rescue teams and undergoes annual fire and rescue training.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of station systems to ensure ability to operate effectively in emergency situations and increase station reliability. This includes on-the-job training of coworkers.


  • Auxiliary Operator I

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Technical courses in mechanics and electricity preferred.
  • Must be able to enter confined spaces, work at elevations above and below grade, accommodate overtime, rotating shifts and on-call status.
  • Fire brigade, confined space rescue team, and hazard material re-certification yearly.


  • Compensation Information:
    $25.95 - $32.40 (min. - mid.)
