Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician

Embrace the role of Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician and become a vital force for change! Conducting daily field testing and observations of construction materials ensures strict adherence to industry standards and project specifications. Your involvement spans the entire construction process, meticulously documenting the correct placement and utilization of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other essential building materials. It is our job to make sure it is "built right", and at S&ME we take that responsibility very seriously.


Your Day-to-Day:

  • Reviewing plans and specifications: Ensure alignment with project objectives before field observations.
  • Documenting field activities: Record detailed observations and testing results during project execution.
  • Utilizing Metafield and/or other management systems: Employ daily for efficient data management and coordination.
  • Calibrating equipment to industry standards: Ensure accuracy and reliability of field and laboratory tools.
  • Conducting Special Inspection observations: Adhere to IBC guidelines for comprehensive quality checks.
  • Daily communication: Engage with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency and progress updates.

What You Bring:

  • A High School diploma/GED
  • A Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Two or More Active Certification(s):
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician - NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils) - International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) - DOT specific in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
