*Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.

However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions, or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, and will be notified of instructions.

Monday-Friday daytime, evening and weekend hours as needed to cover recruitment.
Pay Rate $13 per hour
Minimum Experience/Education
Graduation from a four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions upon hire date.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
The preferred candidate will be a recent UNC Charlotte graduate and have a strong knowledge of University programs including student services and academics. Additionally, the preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform the duties of Tour Captain, communicating key tour details with campus partners including Housing, Admissions Staff, Visit Staff, Front Desk Student Workers and Summer Tour Guides.
  • Lead Niner Guide operations by recruiting, marketing, training, and scheduling tour guides for Admissions tours and events.
  • Assist with Visit Program operations by receiving incoming phone calls at the front desk and making outbound calls to prospective students.
  • Assist with Undergraduate Admissions by conducting front desk operations- including welcoming guests to the University.
  • Connect visitors with Admissions Counselors utilizing computer software programs such as Slate and NinerQ.
  • Conduct check-in for prospective families visiting the University using Slate.
  • Updates social media outlets such as Instagram so that the volunteer team remains informed about the University.
  • Researches and prepares special projects as assigned.
  • Articulates the value of a UNC Charlotte education in a variety of forums.
