Overview

The Senior Wealth Underwriter underwrites and evaluates retail credit loan applications from Bank branches at a higher level of complexity. Reviews applications predominantly from real estate secured transactions to determine risk and creditworthiness. Provides guidance to sales associates on loan decisions and structure, ensuring retail credit lending activities comply with federal and state regulations. Assists management with more advanced underwriting initiatives such as loan reconsiderations. May provide leadership to less experienced associates in work group due to knowledge in area of specialization.

The role is a hybrid role located in Raleigh, NC or Columbia, SC.


Responsibilities

  • Underwrite - Underwrites and evaluates retail credit applications according to applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines. Reviews financial statements, business balance sheets, and results of analysis to determine risk and creditworthiness. Works extensively with sales associates on underwriting results and individual credit needs.
  • Analysis - Sources, compiles, and interprets financial data. Conducts detailed cash flow analysis to aid in underwriting efforts, and consults on clients with high loan exposure. Analyzes specific customer situations to determine mutually beneficial credit solutions.
  • Business Support - Determines customer needs through communication with branch personnel. Addresses complex or escalated inquiries on retail underwriting and retail denial compliance. Assists in determining mutually beneficial credit solutions for clients and the Bank.
  • Loan Proficiency - Acts as a resource through advanced knowledge of underwriting processes, requirements, and daily activities. Possesses detailed knowledge of appraisal requirements. Serves as backup on loan reconsiderations and may assist management with related initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Consumer Credit Underwriting with specialty in Real Estate Secured loan types

OR

High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Consumer Credit Underwriting with specialty in Real Estate Secured loan types

Required Qualifications:

  • Consumer Underwriting experience with specialty in Real Estate Secured loan types
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and concepts
  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial documentation including tax returns and prepared financial statements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Solid decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple loan assignments

  • Extensive experience in credit analysis required, with exposure to securities based lending and high net worth lending

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience underwriting in construction and aircraft lending
  • Experience underwriting in a fast paced, high volume environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel,Team,and Word
