Description The Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation is charged with the vision of making pediatric surgery more precise, less invasive, and pain free. The Institute provides a rich R&D environment with close links to prestigious medical, engineering, and business schools in Washington, DC area. Our network of business advisors includes leaders in the investment community, industry, government, and professional firms. Most of our researchers hold MDs and PhDs and have track records of peer-reviewed published papers and participation on editorial boards and advisory panels. Throughout our labs, you will find scientists and engineers turning ideas into prototypes to transform our technology into market ready products.

The Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Fellowship is a mentored post-graduate research and professional development experience focused on research translation from bench to bedside developing innovative solutions to optimize the availability of medical devices engineered, evaluated and approved for pediatric populations.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
M.S. MS level postgraduates or Doctoral level candidates (e.g. MD, PhD, DSc) preferred. Other candidates will be considered based on experience and qualifications. (Required) Or
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (Required) Or
Medical Doctor (M.D.) .

Required Skills/Knowledge
Demonstrated interest in a multi-disciplinary approach to biomedical research (e.g., publications, grants, awards).
Ability to supervise, advice, and train professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with legal and ethical standards.

Functional Accountabilities
Responsible Conduct of Research

  • Consistently demonstrate adherence with the standards for the responsible conduct of research.
  • Stays informed of and adheres to institutional policies and federal regulations regarding human subjects' research and use of protected health information.
  • Responsible for appropriate use of research funds.
  • Comply with all annual job-related training requirements.

Commitment to Research & Education

  • Conduct research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s).
  • Participate in research committees, workshops and special interest groups.
  • Participate as appropriate in hospital/university -wide educational programs.
  • Maintain knowledge and comprehension of assigned research protocols; including study procedures, timelines and eligibility.

Commitment to Quality & Compliance

  • Follow established bylaws, policies and procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Cooperate and participate in the development, implementation and revision of policies affecting medical practice, judgment and quality of care. Participate as a member of special care teams and hospital committees.
  • Reports good faith suspicions of research noncompliance and/or research misconduct to the appropriate institutional compliance office(s).

  • Participate in CNMC's advocacy initiatives.
  • Contribute scholarly effort to the advancement of public policy that promotes population-based pediatric health and well being.
  • Participate in specific health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
